Upping the RAM from 8GB to 16GB will cost $200. Available options for the $1499 21.5-inch model include 256GB or 512GB of flash storage ($200 and $500, respectively) or a 1TB Fusion Drive ($200) which marries 126GB of fast flash storage and 1TB hard drive into a single volume that performs much like an SSD, but with the capacity of a hard drive.

If you think you might want a larger or faster internal drive, it’s best to customize your iMac at the time of purchase. While this and other changes help to significantly reduce glare on these recent displays, it makes it much harder to service the 2012 and later iMacs. The glass cover is adhered to the display, not held on by magnets like the aluminum iMacs released before 2012. The IPS screen gives the iMacs excellent viewing angles with no loss of contrast or color shifts as you move away from the center of the screen. The resolution of the widescreen displays remain at 1920 by 1080 on the 21.5-inch and 2560 by 1440 on the 27-inch iMac. On the other hand I could place an internal 2.5" SSD instead the actual HD and use as I use my HD, I mean for all but I would need 1TB and it is very expensive for me.Īnd the last option would be to buy an external SSD to place 300GB of virtual instruments and digital music stuff and use my HD to place te OS, the apps and other files. These new iMacs have the same four USB 3.0 ports, dual Thunderbolt ports, SDXC card slot and gigabit Ethernet port as the late 2012 models. By the way I don't know where to get it but from Apple Service Center.

I bought my IMac just to make music, I installed Logic Pro X and more than 300GB of virtual instruments, as you know those type of libraries are very large, I have libraries from 16GB to 57GB and also these virtual instruments are good to save them in a much faster drive so I thought to place a 256GB or 512GB PCIexpress SSD to save those libraries and keep my HD for other apps. I already know how to teardown my computer when I I upgraded the original 8GB memory to 16GB so open it again is not a problem in fact it's exiting I am looking for advise to decide which type or which combination of SSD units is worth for me since I have an internal PCI express port so the three options are: Actually I have the original 5400 RPM 2.5" 1TB HD in my 21.5" late 2013 IMac model 14,
